A Psychopath is Impersonating Me on Facebook. What can I do?

As psychopaths continue to attack their victims it is not uncommon for them to reach out to the World Wide Web in an effort to conduct their continuing psychopathic character assassination.

facebook-fraudYour question, is specific in regards to the social media site, facebook, “What can I do if someone has conducted identity theft by setting up a fraudulent facebook account posing as me?”

Facebook is an easy tool to manipulate for spreading hate campaigns disguised as someone else (or even representing yourself as a business or celebrity to do your dirty work). Fortunately, facebook realizes this and has a system in place for reporting the imposters.

Log in to your Facebook account.

Log in to your account as you normally would. Sign on to your Facebook page and navigate to the page of the person who has stolen your identity.

  • Click the down arrow to the right of the “Message” button and select “Report/Block” from the drop-down menu.
  • Check “Report this Timeline,” which appears in the resulting popup window, by clicking the radio button to its left.
  • Click the “Continue” button to reveal a list of explanation options.
  • Scroll down to the third option, “This timeline is pretending to be someone else.” Check the box next to the word “Me” by clicking on it.
  • Read through the remaining options to determine whether any apply to your situation. Select those that do.
  • Click the “Continue” button to proceed to an empty text pane. In it, provide any details you have about the identity theft and who you believe committed it. Be sure to include information on how the incident has harmed you or your reputation.

Visit the Facebook      Identity Theft Protection Guide section.

Report the  Facebook identity theft.

If someone is using your e-mail address to send spam to Facebook friends and anyone else in your address book, send that address to spam@uce.gov.      This is the Federal Trade Commission’s official e-mail address for reporting all identity theft, including Facebook identity theft.

Alternatively, you can send an email to “login@facebook.com”. Briefly explain that a fake profile has been created in your name and provide your contact information so that a member of the Facebook support team may contact you to investigate the matter further.
